Outdoor classical concerts 2020 revised

Leeds Castle Open Air Concert

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 pandemic, many outdoor classical concerts have been cancelled but some are starting to reschedule. Please check in advance on the official sites as the situation is changing rapidly.

Glyndeboure Open Air Opera

Starting in mid July, music returns to Glyndebourne in a series of short outdoor opera performances and less formal concerts in the gardens. This will include outdoor concerts performed by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, with socially-distanced seating as well as the opportunity to picnic. During August, concerts will be performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

As the season progresses, Glyndebourne will stage an opera in the open air for the first time. (Jacques Offenbach’s Mesdames de la Halle (1858), a one-act opera that will be staged with 12 singers but no chorus.) The dress code is, as always, discretionary, but people do enjoy dressing up!

ENO Drive & Live

English National Opera is launching ENO Drive & Live at Alexandra Palace for the first three weeks of September. There will be 12 performances of a 90 minute shortened version of Puccini’s La Boheme, with socially distances singers and musicians. ENO Drive & Live will allow people to continue to social distance if necessary within the safety of their own vehicles whilst enjoying a super-sized live opera performance.

Tickets: will be released in the coming weeks and will be approximately £100 for a car (max 4 people per vehicle).

Hampstead Garden Opera

HGO is bringing live opera back to London with an open-air, socially-distanced production of Gustav Holst’s Sāvitri a tale of life, death, illusion and hope.
Venue: Lauderdale House, Highgate, London

Dates: 13th, 15, 20th and 22nd August (two concerts per evening)

Leeds Castle (Kent)

Sadly this event has been cancelled. All tickets will be valid for next year’s concert on Saturday 10th July 2021. 

This iconic event is a highlight of the summer season,  set in the most spectacular location and natural amphitheatre in front of the beautiful Leeds Castle, reputed to be the loveliest castle in the world.  People in their thousands have attended the stunning setting across the past forty-one years to be entertained by this amazing open-air musical delight.

Battle Proms Picnic Concerts

This year’s concerts have been postponed until 2021.

The Battle Proms feature a 2 hour orchestral programme with all the ‘last night of the proms’ finale favourites, all in the surroundings of some of the UK’s most stunning stately homes. Expect flag-waving and a dazzling firework display!

Proms in the Park, Bournemouth

This event has been cancelled for 2020.

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra presents its open-air concerts at Meyrick Park, Bournemouth, complete with fireworks, laser lights, and pyrotechnics.

BBC Proms in the Park, Hyde Park, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland

Proms in the Park is part of the annual spectacular culmination of two months of music-making at the BBC Proms, as the world-famous Last Night celebrations spill out from London’s Royal Albert Hall and thousands of people come together at venues across the UK to be part of the magic of the Last Night.

Kneller Hall Concerts in the Park

Postponed until further notice.

Every year the Royal Military School of Music hosts a series of summer concerts that are open to the public.
Dates: Friday, 26th June and Saturday, 27th June, 2020, at 8pm.
